Let’s Talk Earring Wires,…Shall We?

The unsung heroes of earrings, ear-wires are what most people think of as ‘just hardware’ for their beautiful earrings.  Alas,…they are not.  At least not in my opinion. And, once you read this article and start noticing earring wires, you might change your mind and quite possibly your ‘ear-wire’ opinion (or form your own).

For starters, although I prefer to start with a positive instead of a negative comment, I’m going to share with you my dislike of ‘store-bought’ (i.e. traditional/manufactured) earring wires.

(Manufactured Earring Wires - Compliments of Pinterest)

They are, to me, the bane of practically all earrings; distracting from the most beautiful designs and, for lack of a better term, ‘trashing’ them.

(Oohhh,….I’m feeling the flack from this sentence already!)

Have you ever seen a pair of the most beautiful earrings with your favorite gemstone or the most unique and intriguing design that stopped you in your tracks only to see them hanging from a pair of sterile, manufactured, cheap-looking earring wires, thus mucking up their astonishing beauty?

Admit it.  You've noticed.

They distract from the designer’s beautiful work of art which takes hours of intricate work, skill and education. Not to mention patience – some of these beauties take days or weeks to create, start to finish!   And, if you’re the kind who notices, they completely take away from the overall beauty of the finished piece of jewelry.

It’s as if you’re viewing this gorgeous painting in the Louvre and then you happen to notice the frame and it’s some slick, manufactured looking, no character square piece of #*@!$ engulfing this fine work of art.

Yes, I probably should have used my inside voice there, but seriously folks,….I’m calling ‘foul’!!

Here’s a solution:

If you’re a jewelry designer, create your own.

I’d wager to bet that if you are capable of creating beautiful works of jewelry art, a simple earring wire design is going to be a breeze for you.

Or, if you feel you don’t have the time for this, as time is money and the most efficient way of doing things saves money, purchase some well-crafted, quality, hand-made ear wires from another designer or someone who does this on a regular basis (No, I no longer do this).

Another thought is to make a few different ear-wire designs on your own, consistent with your style of jewelry / earrings and have them cast in bulk, thus ensuring the same outcome time after time.
They're bound to become a ‘signature’ piece in your designs, just as your clasps or your logo tags may have become and will help set your designs apart from others’ and make your jewelry distinguishable.

Having clients who mentioned how they prefer my simple ear wire designs over ‘store-bought’ ones; sayingthey add a touch of class to the design and feel stronger and of better quality, makes me feel I am delivering the best over all product and design to my customers.

I’m quite curious to know how many people really do notice the ear-wires of earrings.

Whether you’re someone who loves wearing earrings, a seasoned jewelry designer, or a retail or boutique establishment, please jump in and leave a comment below telling me what you think.

Who knows,…maybe it’s just me.

Until Next Time,

Peace, Love, Pearls and “Great Earring-Wires”, Baby!!

Cheers,

~Shel~

Earrings in the Hopper

I was able to create for a couple of hours this past weekend, despite all the functions and things we had going on, and boy was it nice!

I actually played with wire and wrapped a few gemstones for earrings.

I even made a few earring wires.

Haven't done that in a while!

Hopefully this coming weekend I'll get these finished, photographed and listed over in my Etsy shop

It's rather bare at the moment so new items are needed!

I've been inspired by so many different things lately.

Here's some of my inspiration for these earrings:

Sea Caves, Taiwan

Glory Hole, Ozark National Forest

Nature is so beautiful, isn't she?

What is it that inspires you?

Until Next Time,

We're All Ears - March Reveal

The lovely creative gals over at Earrings Everyday are running a monthly earring design challenge focused on a specific piece of artwork each month and for March, this was the wonderful piece that was chosen to inspire us all ~

Beatrix Potter - The Tailor of Gloucester

Beatrix Potter's, The Tailor of Gloucester

Oh indeed!!  I know they mentioned it over on the blog the day they put up the challenge, but yes, as a child I too was drawn into many Beatrix Potter stories by her amazing artwork.

I believe she is the reason I am not afraid of mice and think they are beyond cute and believe that all animals in the forest have the coolest of little homes tucked away in a tree somewhere!

Here's  my (late to the party today) post for the

The minute I saw the picture, I could think of nothing else but pink ribbon and cord with some wood beads, rose quartz and of course, pearls.

I hope you'll take a moment to check out all the other participants from the "We're All Ears" monthly challenge and see their lovely pieces created with the inspiring artwork of  Beatrix Potter's, The Tailor of Gloucester's picture.

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and Childhood Memories!

Earrings Everyday "We're All Ears" Inspiration Blog Hop

It's time to see what everyone created for the
Earrings Everyday monthly challenge.

I didn't think I was going to make it for this one since I was a bit late to the game (so to speak) because of playing catch up this week and all kinds of other stuff that was going on with work (day job).

But I did manage to finally get some earrings created and photographed and I'm glad because not being able to create almost daily anymore has left me a bit cranky and unhappy - just ask my hubby and son about that one!

The Earrings Everyday blog is hosting a monthly earring challenge and this month the inspiration was this colorful photo below.

Beautiful, Funky Bug "Love"!

LOL!

So, here's the earrings I created.

The faceted, rutilated quartz slices reminded me of the gorgeous and ever so delicate wings of these cute little 'love bugs'.

I made the earrings 'move' by knotting the cord between the beads so as to mimic what I thought would be their graceful movement.

The pretty, bright blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise, cheery salmon colored glass beads and the faceted pearls are all the colors, shapes and textures that jumped out at me from this photo.

I had fun using this photo as the inspirational jumping point for these earrings.

Thanks to everyone over at the Earrings Everyday Blog for their daily inspiration. I look forward to next month's challenge and hope I'm able to jump in and participate again!

Please give all the other participants some love and see what they have created by clicking on over to the
Earrings Everyday blog
and leaving some feedback, won't you?

Everyone have a super wonderful weekend!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and "Funky Bug Love"
Cheers,

Earrings Everyday Challenge and Other Inspiration

Hey there, I just wanted to give a shout out and let everyone know of the monthly challenge that's happening over on the Earrings Everyday Blog.

I love earrings and 'haunt' this site regularly, commenting (when time allows) on all the super cool, drool-worthy earrings and information they post daily.

And, they're doing a give-a-way, too!
Click here to go to the post and get all the juicy details!

I was trying to make time to create a pair of earrings for the monthly challenge and the link-up happening tomorrow - Friday, February 21st -  but with work and a few other things going on, it might not happening as I would like.

Please head over and join in the fun if you can find the time.

At the very least, stop by to check out the blog and every one's link-up entries tomorrow.

I'm excited to see all the cool creations using the art inspiration they have provided!

I am packing up to head out to Jerome
with my sister and some friends this weekend.

This little, old mining town is a wealth of cool inspiration - to say the absolute least!

Jerome, Arizona

With all its old doors, haunted hot spots, wicked landscape and amazing panoramic views, I'm hopeful that many of the artists shops that closed during the 'great recession' have re-opened because the talent and uber-cool vibe that fills this town is infectious and I'm completely ready to soak it up!

Ears To You Reveal

*If you're looking for the Focus on Life: 52  Photos Challenge
for Week 37 - Click Here!*

Amy over at Copper Diem is hosting another
"Ears To You" Blog Hop and today's the reveal!

Amy's always making tons of super cool earrings for charity and doing such good things for other people and I first heard of the Ears To You organization through her blog, Copper Diem, that I follow.

Ears To You is a wonderful organization with a mission to provide earrings to lift the spirits of women who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

Amy explained that Ears To You has expanded their organization to include children's hospitals - including the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital and BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation in Florida - and to help Ears to You with their work in these children's hospitals, Amy's blog hop will be focused on earrings for teen and 'tween girls this time around.

We were to make 3 to 5 pairs of teen/tween style earrings for the Ears To You organization and then post them on our own blogs and then link up to the blog hop over on her blog, Copper Diem.

So, here's my tween/teen earring donation for the
Ears To You organization:

Smaller versions of my own handcrafted, sterling silver ear wires  - for those tween/teen ears  - and little delicate pearls and Swarovski crystals of various shapes and colors.

And then of course I had to do some little Sleeping Beauty Turquoise earrings, too.  It's an Arizona thing! :-)

Once we created the earrings, we were to mail them off to Ears To You. Mine are being shipped out this week and I truly hope the girls who receive these like them!

Here's the Ears To You website link so that you can get involved too if you're so inclined!

Now, hop on over to Copper Diem and check out the other teen/tween earrings that were created for this super cause!

And thanks Amy, for hosting this hop and for introducing more people to the Ears To You organization!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and Earrings for Precious People!
Cheers,
~Shel~

You all have a great weekend.

Not sure how I feel about this one yet.
This is number 48.
Wow. That felt weird to write.
LOL!!

Oh well, it is what it is, right?   It is just a number after all. (That's my story,.....)

And, I'd like to wish fellow birthday gal,
a very Happy Birthday today, too!

Everyone have a great weekend and feel free to pass this along to your friends so they can comment and have a chance to win as well!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and Birthday Fun!

Oh yeah, and don't forget, the first reveal of  Lori's Bead Soup Blog Party is Tomorrow, so be sure to hop on over to her blog and check out all the wonderful soups every one will have cooked up!!

Hang Ups

I finally got some jewelry pics taken and sized and was able to put a few new things up over in my
Etsy Store yesterday.

I swear, it's like pulling teeth to get me to do this.  I do love to take the pictures, edit them and all that good stuff, so I'm not sure what my hang up is as far as putting up new listings.

Sometimes it's because the new things I have are possibly for a boutique, or they're going to a client, or lately it's because I've sent pics in to a bead magazine and am waiting to hear back.

But more so than not, it's usually just because I either haven't gotten anything new to list, or the pics aren't taken and edited yet.

What do you get 'hung up' on with your art and your business?

Hop on over to my Etsy store to see the rest!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and Listings!
Cheers,
~Shel~
