Pearls! Pearls!! Pearls!!! Blog Hop Update

I've had some people message me that they 'missed' signing up for the Pearls! Pearls!! Pearls!!! Blog Hop that we're doing with the reveal date on June 29th.

I wanted to let everyone know that since I'm doing a link-up via Inlinkz, anyone one who wants to just 'hop along' with us on the reveal date, which is  Sunday, June 29th, is welcome to just jump in that day and join in our fun with Pearls!

This makes it super easy for people to join in the fun if they feel like it at the last minute and it also gives people who might not be ready on the reveal date the opportunity to back out with out anyone knowing. (sweet, eh?!)

And, I like the Inlinkz link-up because it gives you just a little 'sneak-peak' of what someone has created.

Plus, if you don't have a blog, but want to link up via your facebook post or your Flickr account, the Inlinkz link-up makes it convenient to join in with out having to have a blog or do a lengthy post if you don't feel like it.

And, you can also link-up with a photo over on Instagram now too. How cool is that?!

Click here to go to the Inlinkz Blog and see how to do it.

For those of you who have 'signed up' for the Pearls Blog Hop, if you've sent me your email, then I'll be able to give you the Inlinkz code the night before the hop so you can post it on your blogs too, if you'd like.

But, don't feel like you have to have the Inlinkz thing on your blog post if you don't want to.  It will be on mine so all you'll need is a link to my blog or my actual post on the 29th of June.

So, easy peazy, right?!!

"Freya" by Michelle Buettner - aka, me ;-)

Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest in the Pearls Blog Hop. It warms my heart. Especially since I've been a bit out of the loop this year with work and all,...makes me feel like I'm not missing as much as I think I am! LOL!!

I have missed quite a few hops that were right up my alley - like Diana P's Waxed Linen Hop that just happened and Lori Anderson's Bead Soup Blog Party, just to name two (out of more than 10 that I wanted to  participate in!!).

Yes, it's been tough missing out, but I've had fun seeing so many fun and beautiful designs as I've tried to visit as many people's hops and blog posts as I can.

Okay - it's time to get your pearl-mojo going.  There's tons of Pearl inspiration over on Pinterest if you get the chance to hop over there and take a look.

Here's  a link to my Pinterest Board

And remember, what you create doesn't have to be jewelry or jewelry related.

It can be anything.

I'm going to be doing a few "Pearl Posts" through out the month of June with various types of pearl info, but if anyone has any questions, please shoot me an email or message me here on my blog or over on facebook (just FYI - I'm not on FB all that much anymore, but I do scoot over there at least once a day) and I'll answer you as quickly as I can.

Have a great week everyone!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and Fun with Pearls!
Cheers,

Pearls In The Spotlight

Pearls are so versatile.

The truly do go with anything.

It's hard to believe the fashion and fine jewelry industries are just getting around to really embracing this idea.

What I mean is, I think these industries have tried (on many occasions) to 'bring forth the pearl', but as a whole, most people still see them as 'stuffy', snobby or classic and all 'prim and proper'.

Not me.

I believe they go with anything, on anyone, in any season and for any reason.

Because I love them so much the thought never crossed my mind that they couldn't look great in any type of design or with any type of material.

Pearls are such a passion with me that I feel that it's part of my 'life's mission' to spread the word about them and show people how wonderful they are.

I'm glad I'm hosting another Pearls! Pearls!! Pearls!!! Blog Hop.

I think the craft / handcrafted artisan jewelry industry already has the whole 'pearls' thing pretty much figured out.

Seriously.

I see so many of my fellow jewelry artists using their pearls with such a variety of materials and in so many unique and different ways that it makes me feel all tingly inside.

Just look at a few of the creations that were in the
Pearls! Pearls!! Pearls!!! Blog Hop in September 2013.

reveal date is June 29th, which gives you a little over a month to get your pearl mojo on, so if you'd like to join in the fun this go-round, hop on over to the info posted HERE and read all about it.

Or, just come back here on Sunday, June 29th, and link up with all us 'Pearly Peeps'!!

Earrings Everyday "We're All Ears" Inspiration Blog Hop

It's time to see what everyone created for the
Earrings Everyday monthly challenge.

I didn't think I was going to make it for this one since I was a bit late to the game (so to speak) because of playing catch up this week and all kinds of other stuff that was going on with work (day job).

But I did manage to finally get some earrings created and photographed and I'm glad because not being able to create almost daily anymore has left me a bit cranky and unhappy - just ask my hubby and son about that one!

The Earrings Everyday blog is hosting a monthly earring challenge and this month the inspiration was this colorful photo below.

Beautiful, Funky Bug "Love"!

LOL!

So, here's the earrings I created.

The faceted, rutilated quartz slices reminded me of the gorgeous and ever so delicate wings of these cute little 'love bugs'.

I made the earrings 'move' by knotting the cord between the beads so as to mimic what I thought would be their graceful movement.

The pretty, bright blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise, cheery salmon colored glass beads and the faceted pearls are all the colors, shapes and textures that jumped out at me from this photo.

I had fun using this photo as the inspirational jumping point for these earrings.

Thanks to everyone over at the Earrings Everyday Blog for their daily inspiration. I look forward to next month's challenge and hope I'm able to jump in and participate again!

Please give all the other participants some love and see what they have created by clicking on over to the
Earrings Everyday blog
and leaving some feedback, won't you?

Everyone have a super wonderful weekend!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and "Funky Bug Love"
Cheers,
~Shel~

Okay, here's the Scoop:

1) Gotta have a Blog to post the reveal on.

2) Make something (doesn't have to be jewelry *Gasp!*) with pearls in it. A lot of pearls, a few pearls - your choice.

3) They can be real pearls (freshwater, saltwater, Tahitian, South Sea) or imitation (Swarovski, Czech glass, plastic, shell pearls, etc.)

4) What you create can be any style or pay homage to any era/age/region, etc. (i.e. Modern, Ancient, Rustic, Vintage, Boho, Cottage-Chic, Cowgirl, Southwestern, New-England Classic-Stuffy, Trendy, Art-Deco, Tribal, Beachy, Glam, Grunge, Goth, etc.) You name - you can make it!

5) Post the reveal of your creation(s) on Sunday, September 15th, 2013 on your blog and come here to see the list of participants and hop around and see what everyone has created. (I'll do the Inlinkz thingy so it's easy for people to link up and hop around, okay?)

6) Mention WHERE you got your pearls in your post and why you like to shop there - and provide a link if you have one - so that way, we can all shop for pearls after the hop!
*If you've had your pearls for years and/or can't remember where you scored them, or if they were gifted to you or something like this, that's fine - just mention that in your post.

That's it!

Black and White Jewelry Challenge Reveal!

It's time for the
Black and White Jewelry Design Challenge
hosted by the ever-so-talented Sally Russick with
The Studio Sublime!

Those of you who know me or have followed my blog for awhile know that I LOVE Black and White Jewelry!

You can check out my post here that I did when I got back from Italy last fall with mention of the B/W trends to come and see a couple of other pieces I've done in Black and White here, too!

When Sally, who's also the host of the fantastic
Focusing on Life: 52 Photos
weekly photography challenge I participate in each week, sent out a call to participate in her Black and White Jewelry Design Challenge, I signed up in a heartbeat!

Here's what Sally's instructions were for us:

The Challenge:

Design a piece of jewelry that uses only black and white in the design.
It can be elaborate or minimalist but only in black and white.

Exceptions To The Rules:
1.  wire, metal or chain in silver, copper, brass, bronze, white or black can be used.
2.  crystal or crystal AB color beads can also be used to ACCENT the piece.

I kept it pretty simple, but this is what crept out of my mind and through my hands.

I was in a "60's Mod Mood" designing these black and white hoops and ovals
that I created using sterling silver wire and black and white seed beads.
They're fun,...and they feel good on.

I'm not sure why I enjoy Black and White Jewelry so much.

Maybe because it's 'safe', as I call it.

It goes with everything, you can't really go wrong, color-wise, using black and white.

Or maybe it's the mystery of black, the purity of white, and the contrast of the two.

I did a bit of 'hand-crocheting' with
white freshwater cultured pearls, faceted clear quartz
crystals and moonstones on some Black C-Lon Cord.

It catches your eye.

It's dramatic.  It's got flair.

It's just pretty!

Black and White - Czech glass beads, pearls and a rustic pewter cross
knotted on black Irish waxed linen.

Thanks Sally for creating a blog hop that has flair and drama!  It's been a blast creating Black and White Jewelry!

Now, hop along down the list of participants below and check out all the Black and White jewelry they have created for this challenge - I'm sure it'll be an  eye-pleaser!

Until Next Time,

Peace, Love and Creating in Black and White!

Cheers,
~Shel~

2 for 1 Today!!

Today's a busy day here in blog land!

Part 1 of my post is at the top and Part 2 is towards the bottom. If you stick around for all of it you'll see why I didn't just provide links to the separate events!

First up we've got our normal Saturday post this year for Focusing On Life: 52 Photos.  This is Week 5.

For Week 5 Sally, of The Studio Sublime, told us that our prompt was to "Capture Our Hearts" and find hearts in our every day lives.

We were to look around and notice the hearts that are all around us.  I really didn't think I'd find any hearts around me, even with Valentine's Day approaching, but I couldn't believe all the hearts I found in my daily life. Sad to say, I didn't find any really cool ones out in nature while on any walks or anything, but inside was a different story.

Here's what I found:

Top: The earrings I wear almost daily (duh!).
Middle: The Vintaj Heart I was working on while wondering where I was going to find hearts in my surroundings! (Hello?!)
Bottom: Wall hanging over at my friend Dyann's house.

But here's the Hearts that mean the most:

Hanging in my bead cabinet are the two heart necklaces that Logan (a.k.a. The Masked Rider) made us for Valentine's Day when he was in Kindergarten and also his little "I Love You" note that hangs above his 'sock hop' photo from first grade with him and the hubs.

Hard to believe the kiddo's practically grown now!!

I will not be taking these for granted every day when I open my bead cabinet anymore, that's for sure!!

Hop on over to The Studio Sublime and see all the Hearts everyone else captured, okay?!

Now for Part 2 of our agenda this fun Saturday.

It's time for the
hosted by Tracy over at Make Bracelets Blog.

Here's the challenge Tracy presented us with:

"I’d like to start the year together with a healthy jewelry making challenge. Yes, that’s right, a “healthy” jewelry making challenge. It involves choosing a powerful word or phrase that is meaningful to you and incorporating it into a jewelry design that will serve as a reminder to make a positive change in your life. These are the six categories of wellness that people generally want to make changes in: Physical, Emotional, Occupational, Spiritual, Intellectual and Social.  Your words can represent any of these areas."

So, long story short (yeah like that's gonna happen, right?!), I thought quite a bit about my word and/or phrase and here's what spoke to me.

You normally won't hear me mention religion or politics on this blog (and I'm only mentioning one today), so listen up.

Even though I was baptized in the Christian church when I was in the 4th grade, I don't follow a specific religion, nor am I what anyone would refer to as a religious person.

Spiritual? Yes, absolutely. Do I pray?  You betcha!! Prayer is powerful stuff!!  I believe in "God/Spirit" (my own definition mind you) but I'm not religious. However, I do love talking to my friends and learning about their various religious beliefs; they fascinate me and I have a great deal of interest in the history involved in many religions as well.

So, with that said, I was over on Lori Plyler's blog, Studio Waterstone, (Lori did my blog banner if that name sounds familiar and she also hosts "I heart macro" each Sunday) and she had a link posted to a series of video sermons that she said was definitely worth checking out - so I did. WOW!!

Not only were they funny in spots and really eye-opening, (and yes, religious or not, you should check out these videos) but on a couple of occasions, tears just ran down my face!

There are two sentences that Andy Stanley says that I will share with you that really spoke to me and became the basis for my "Wellness Jewelry" that I created for Tracy's challenge here today.  He said:

"My time is limited, So I need to limit what I do with my time."

Think about that one.  I know.  It's a show-stopper, huh?

Then, he said:

"When you begin to live as if your days are numbered you will gain a heart of wisdom."

A Heart of Wisdom.

I'd like a heart of wisdom. So, once I get it through my head that my time is limited and that I must limit what I do with my time (and once this becomes the norm for me), I will start to gain a heart of wisdom.
(Powerful Stuff!)

I mean, how can you not operate from a position of LOVE if you have a heart of wisdom?  And my question here is this, "Shouldn't we all want to operate from a position of love?"

If we all did that, the world would be a better place. The world,...not just here, where ever here is for you, but the world.  Yep, that's what made those tears flow,...

So, my word is TIME.  I need to remember that my time is limited and start limiting what I do with my time and spend that time wisely - from my heart.

It's so appropriate that Sally's prompt for week 5 was "Capture our Hearts", was it not? (read the first part of this entire post if that just confused you!)

Do you remember what Tracy's words for us were? "These are the six categories of wellness that people generally want to make changes in: Physical, Emotional, Occupational, Spiritual, Intellectual and Social."

So, where and how are you going to spend your TIME (more of / less of) in these areas above?

The 3 watch hands on the altered blank represent my hubby, my son and myself
as do the 3 metal beads that are mixed with the turquoise.  The turquoise represents healing in all
areas of our lives.  The chain represents how each part (time) in our lives is linked to the next
while the swirl in the clasp represents how our energy is never ending.

It was a real eye-opener for me to think about each of these and see how I wanted to organize/budget my time and this bracelet sits on my wrist, next to my watch, reminding me that my time is limited!

Okay, I guarantee you I'm not the only one who had some deep revelations over this one, so head on over and check out all the awesome jewelry from the participants for Tracy's Wellness Words Jewelry Challenge!

I bet you'll find some words and/or phrases that speak volumes to you, too!

Thanks so much Tracy for Inspiring us to make positive changes for our over-all health, wellness and well being - what an awesome gift!

Until Next TIME,
Peace, LOVE and Wellness!!
Cheers,
~Shel~
