Earrings Everyday "We're All Ears" Inspiration Blog Hop

It's time to see what everyone created for the
Earrings Everyday monthly challenge.

I didn't think I was going to make it for this one since I was a bit late to the game (so to speak) because of playing catch up this week and all kinds of other stuff that was going on with work (day job).

But I did manage to finally get some earrings created and photographed and I'm glad because not being able to create almost daily anymore has left me a bit cranky and unhappy - just ask my hubby and son about that one!

The Earrings Everyday blog is hosting a monthly earring challenge and this month the inspiration was this colorful photo below.

Beautiful, Funky Bug "Love"!

LOL!

So, here's the earrings I created.

The faceted, rutilated quartz slices reminded me of the gorgeous and ever so delicate wings of these cute little 'love bugs'.

I made the earrings 'move' by knotting the cord between the beads so as to mimic what I thought would be their graceful movement.

The pretty, bright blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise, cheery salmon colored glass beads and the faceted pearls are all the colors, shapes and textures that jumped out at me from this photo.

I had fun using this photo as the inspirational jumping point for these earrings.

Thanks to everyone over at the Earrings Everyday Blog for their daily inspiration. I look forward to next month's challenge and hope I'm able to jump in and participate again!

Please give all the other participants some love and see what they have created by clicking on over to the
Earrings Everyday blog
and leaving some feedback, won't you?

Everyone have a super wonderful weekend!

Until Next Time,
Peace, Love and "Funky Bug Love"
Cheers,
~Shel~

www.MiShelDesigns.blogspot.com

Okay, here's the Scoop:

1) Gotta have a Blog to post the reveal on.

2) Make something (doesn't have to be jewelry *Gasp!*) with pearls in it. A lot of pearls, a few pearls - your choice.

3) They can be real pearls (freshwater, saltwater, Tahitian, South Sea) or imitation (Swarovski, Czech glass, plastic, shell pearls, etc.)

4) What you create can be any style or pay homage to any era/age/region, etc. (i.e. Modern, Ancient, Rustic, Vintage, Boho, Cottage-Chic, Cowgirl, Southwestern, New-England Classic-Stuffy, Trendy, Art-Deco, Tribal, Beachy, Glam, Grunge, Goth, etc.) You name - you can make it!

5) Post the reveal of your creation(s) on Sunday, September 15th, 2013 on your blog and come here to see the list of participants and hop around and see what everyone has created. (I'll do the Inlinkz thingy so it's easy for people to link up and hop around, okay?)

6) Mention WHERE you got your pearls in your post and why you like to shop there - and provide a link if you have one - so that way, we can all shop for pearls after the hop!
*If you've had your pearls for years and/or can't remember where you scored them, or if they were gifted to you or something like this, that's fine - just mention that in your post.

That's it!

Sign up: Now through Sunday, August 25th.
Leave a comment below on this post with your
name, email and blog url and you're in!
*feel free to email me at Shel@asicj.com
w/your email if you don't want anyone to see it.

Black and White Jewelry Challenge Reveal!

It's time for the
Black and White Jewelry Design Challenge
hosted by the ever-so-talented Sally Russick with
The Studio Sublime!

Those of you who know me or have followed my blog for awhile know that I LOVE Black and White Jewelry!

You can check out my post here that I did when I got back from Italy last fall with mention of the B/W trends to come and see a couple of other pieces I've done in Black and White here, too!

When Sally, who's also the host of the fantastic
Focusing on Life: 52 Photos
weekly photography challenge I participate in each week, sent out a call to participate in her Black and White Jewelry Design Challenge, I signed up in a heartbeat!

Here's what Sally's instructions were for us:

The Challenge:

Design a piece of jewelry that uses only black and white in the design.
It can be elaborate or minimalist but only in black and white.

Exceptions To The Rules:
1.  wire, metal or chain in silver, copper, brass, bronze, white or black can be used.
2.  crystal or crystal AB color beads can also be used to ACCENT the piece.

I kept it pretty simple, but this is what crept out of my mind and through my hands.

I was in a "60's Mod Mood" designing these black and white hoops and ovals
that I created using sterling silver wire and black and white seed beads.
They're fun,...and they feel good on.

I'm not sure why I enjoy Black and White Jewelry so much.

Maybe because it's 'safe', as I call it.

It goes with everything, you can't really go wrong, color-wise, using black and white.

Or maybe it's the mystery of black, the purity of white, and the contrast of the two.

I did a bit of 'hand-crocheting' with
white freshwater cultured pearls, faceted clear quartz
crystals and moonstones on some Black C-Lon Cord.

It catches your eye.

It's dramatic.  It's got flair.

It's just pretty!

Black and White - Czech glass beads, pearls and a rustic pewter cross
knotted on black Irish waxed linen.

Thanks Sally for creating a blog hop that has flair and drama!  It's been a blast creating Black and White Jewelry!

Now, hop along down the list of participants below and check out all the Black and White jewelry they have created for this challenge - I'm sure it'll be an  eye-pleaser!

Until Next Time,

Peace, Love and Creating in Black and White!

Cheers,
~Shel~

Anklet Blog Hop!!

*If you're looking for Week 22 of the
Focusing on Life: 52 Photos Weekly Photo Challenge,

______

Today's the day for the Anklet Blog Hop hosted by the sweet and super talented Kashmira Patel with
(Remember the earring swap the two of us did here?)

I used to make anklets all the time and for some silly reason, haven't made any in a couple of years. My sister wears a few of mine at a time on her ankle most of the year (except the winter months) and I usually have one or two on in the summer as well.

Anklets are a different bread of adornment, if you ask me. They not only take the focus off our upper features but they put it square at our feet. That makes some people rather uncomfortable, while it's truly welcomed by others.

Anklets require a bit of careful thought when creating them too because they tend to sit right on your little ankle bone, thus designating the beads be just right so as not to poke their wearer or be to 'clunky/chunky' to walk around in.

The beads, chain and findings used in anklets must function properly with out smacking your other ankle in the side (ouch!) as you walk, run, jump and dance (!) all day and they must be very well constructed because let's face it - we're tough on our feet!
I like anklets (both wearing them and creating them!) and think they're a fun way to express yourself.

I think Anklets are sexy!

I feel young and vibrant when wearing anklets.

Kind of like a free-spirited, beach babe!

(It's okay, you can laugh,....I did as I wrote that!)

Free-Spirited, Hippie-Chick, Beach Babe - complete with "Peace Out"
Anklet and Silver Triple Peace Sign Toe Ring (a gift from my hubby and son).

Sometimes, just like any other piece of jewelry, anklets can transform you into that super-chic, sexy, dressed-to-the-nines, classy, going to the opera kinda of gal,...with rhinestones and gold chain adorning your ankles while your feet are tucked so sexily into your black stilettos, who wouldn't feel special and elite?!

This is a more 'dressy' type of anklet.  I like creating "S" clasps for anklets
because they lie flat against your ankle and are easy to get on/off!

Sometimes anklets make you feel loved and are a source of comfort and security and have great sentimental value to you due to the memories they hold because of the means by which you acquired said anklet - say your true love gifted you one and lovingly placed it upon your ankle.
How perfectly romantic, right?!

Sleek, Go with Anything Anklet created with Swarovski Crystals
and Silver Bali Daisy Spacers

Or, they remind you of having fun in the sand, running on the beach in the summer, the salty, sea air kissing your skin as the water tickles your feet! (this would be the dream that runs through my head as I don my anklets!)

I had fun playing around with some photo editing of all these pics, too!

I thought it was a fun idea to do anklet blog hop when Kashmira mentioned it and other than her request for us to just create something we love, there weren't really any other guidelines. She was super organized though and gave us tons of prompts, links and Pinterest boards to drool over and to help us with our designs. (Thank you!!)

I had to to be my own model and get the pics all on my own, too.
So, sorry for the tile floor pics, but I took them looking into the mirror of the closet
in our master bath!   :-)

I had a lot of fun creating some new anklets for this blog hop.

I already have a bunch of leather and pearl anklets (imagine that!) and Bali-bead ones that I've created over the years, so I tried to create ones that were a bit different than the ones I already had.

Can you tell which one is my favorite
that I've been wearing all week?!

Yep!!

"Peace Out, Baby!"

Thanks Kashmira for a hosting such a cool blog hop - it's been fun!

Now, hop on over to every one else's blog and see what beautiful designs they've created to adorn their ankles!!

Until Next Time,

Peace, Love and Adorn Those Ankles, Baby!!

Cheers,
~Shel~
