Suburban Girl Studio Design Team - Fall Reveal!

November 1st! I know, huh?!  Where has the year gone?
Lucky for you, it's time for the
Suburban Girl Studio Design Team's
Fall Reveal!

Diana from Suburban Girl Studio sent me one
of her Heart Shaped Pendants - Sweet!!

This time, I sort of knew what I wanted to do, so once I got started designing (which wasn't until the last minute!)
it went pretty smoothly.
I was lucky enough this go-around
to supply each member of the group with one of
my copper swirl clasps.

I wanted to make a couple of my own components this time too, so I wire wrapped this cool little rock that I found on one of our last outings in the desert and I created a Sari Silk, wire and bead wrapped 'bead', too.

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year and my sister and I usually take a sister's trip and head some place here in the state that cools off enough to have the leaves change
and actually look and feel (temperature wise) like fall.

This is a pic of Sedona from one of our trips a few years back.

The blue sky, the red rocks, the colors of the trees.

It was my inspiration for this piece.

The Hubby and I were married in Sedona 18 years ago this past September.

Sedona is a beautiful place - during any season!

Thanks to Diana of Suburban Girl Studio
for having me along for the ride this year.

It's been a blast creating designs with her
gorgeous pendants and components!

Hop on over to the other team member's
sites and see all their great designs!

**Special Note**  Team members Sandra Miller & Jan Onipenco are currently out of power  due to Hurricane Sandy and will post when they're back up and running.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are affected from this storm.**

Suburban Girl Studio Design Team - Summer Reveal!

Wow - Summer!  Can you believe it?  Where's the time gone?

Right now it's time for the Suburban Girl Studio
Design Team Summer 2012 Reveal. (Woo Hoo!!)

Diana sent me this very cool Starfish Pendant - beautiful!

And this amazing shell bead connector - super sweet!

And then she included one of Jan Opinenco's  beads, too - oh my!!   It looks like a summer swirl of sea, sand and surf goodness, doesn't it?!!

Okay, so when I think of summer I think of the Beach.

When I think of the Beach I think of the ocean and the lovely blue and green colors of the water.

Then, I start to think of sail boats.

Sailing into Catalina Harbor
off the coast of California
I LOVE sailboats!

One thing I love about sailboats and all things nautical are the knots that tie everything together.

So, for my design I decided to use some natural waxed linen cord from White Clover Kiln over on Etsy because it looked like the old ropes used on the docks and to tie up sailboats.

Then, I knotted some immitation sea glass together with some sea-foam colored Recycled Sari Silk from Darn Good Yarn.

The beads reminded me of all the sea glass you can find on the beach and the silk reminded me of the sails and how they move and take shape in the wind.

This design is definitely going into my personal stash because it's something I will wear over and over this summer - and any time I go to the beach!!

I big thank you to Diana of Suburban Girl Studio for allowing me the opportunity to be on her Design Team and to showcase her lovely, handcrafted ceramic beads and findings.

They're totally amazing and you really will love them - so go check 'em out!

And, thanks to Jan Onipenco of Motlen Mayhem for her amazing lampwork bead!

Until Next Time,

Peace, Love and Sailing Through Summer!!

Suburban Girl Studio Design Team - Spring Reveal

Wow - this has been so much fun!

Some of you might remember back here, when I mentioned that I was luckily selected as one of Diana's members for her Suburban Girl Studio Design Team?

Well, today's the reveal date for Spring 2012.

Here's the lovely items that Diana over at
Suburban Girl Studio so graciously sent me.

Beautiful, right?  The glass bead was made by fellow Design Team member and talented lampwork artist Jan over at Molten Mayhem and the Sunset Orange Porcelain Flower Pendant was made by Diana herself.

I can't tell you how many times I tried this and I tried that.  I put things together and pulled things apart. I tried Irish waxed linen with seed beads, but the ones I really wanted to use, which were the perfect color, were way too small and the cord wouldn't fit through them. Not to mention that the design did nothing to highlight either the pendant or the glass beads,, it was starting to look like I might not have a design that I was pleased with finished in time for the reveal.

But, last, it came together.  Here's the finished design.

My son remarked this week that my design colors are usually "blacks, greys, blues, silvers and stuff like that". And he's right - so these colors were a real treat!  They're bright and cheery and definitely remind me of spring; especially with everything blooming and colors popping up everywhere here in the desert.

I love using recycled Sari Silk in my designs.
And then of course, true to my usual style,
(if you could even say that I have a specific style)
is the use of silver with the addition of the chain
and beaded dangles.

And, notice how I could wear this to a PHX Suns game and be loaded with yummy team spirit?
Yeah Baby!!

Please be sure to check out the other
Design Team Members
by clicking on  their names in the list below to see the amazing items they've created.

You'll be glad you did!!

Special thanks to Diana for so graciously setting up this Design Team and sharing her lovely art pendants and beads with us and to Jan this season for giving us all one of her lovely glass beads - you two are amazing!!
